Joanna qualified as an Occupational Therapist from Brunel University in 1998 and has worked in a variety of clinical settings before specialising in hands and plastics. Joanna has been working in hand therapy since 2001 at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Her current work involves treating patients with complex needs following trauma or elective surgery including splinting, casting, hand therapy and scar assessment and treatment.

As part of her role as a senior occupational therapist Joanna has developed the specialist area of assessment and rehabilitation of patients with spasticity, developing a combined approach with the neurosciences team. She also has a special interest in paediatric upper limb conditions.

Joanna is a member of the British Association of Hand Therapists and has presented at national and international professional conferences.

Role within the Hand Transplant Team:

  • Input into the development of Transplant rehabilitation protocols
  • Pre operative functional assessments
  • Post operative assessment, rehabilitation, splinting / casting
  • Liason with the Multi Disciplinary Team.
